Original Hare Painting
Gorgeous original paintings of hares by wildlife artist James Hollis. Each watercolour artwork is hand-painted on high-quality watercolour paper, perfect for modern and rustic spaces alike.
Hare painting inspiration, quote from the artist, James Hollis: –
“For many years, I’ve been trying to capture the grace and power of the wild hare in my paintings. A few years ago, I visited Havergate island in Suffolk, an island densely populated by hares with no natural predators. Since then, I’ve been seeking out, learning about, and painting wild hares. I recently went hare spotting on the Isle of Sheppey. I spent the whole day looking for burrows, and hares, only to find that they had spent most of their time in the car park near my car! I try to use these experiences to create hare art that is beautiful and true to the nature of these marvellous creatures.”
– The Artist James Hollis
James loves learning as much as he can about hares and their intriguing habits:
The European or Brown hare’s scientific name is Lepus europaeus
Brown hares engage in boxing mostly during March, which is their mating season. This is known as “March Madness”.
Hare “boxing matches” are often between a female and male hare. Sometimes, these bouts are the female hare’s way of letting the male know they are not ready to mate, and sometimes they are a test of the male’s determination.
Each original artwork is based closely on hares James has observed in the wild. These hare paintings make for the perfect wall art to complement any home.
